Sharp And Harmony For The Win

Well the new bedroom TV arrived today. I've been shopping for new TVs for about, oh I don't know, ever. Part of the problem in the past has been price. Part has been space. Well LCDs have come way down and as far as I'm concerned are now affordable. The living room has not been cleaned out enough to receive a new TV yet, but the bedroom has been upgraded. Yes it's wider than the bathroom door. (Please ignore the messy closet. It is full after all.)

That's a new Sharp LC-37GP1U 37" LCD TV. Woohoo! (All kinds of toys arrived this week.) Standard def TV is so-so. No worse than the previous TV in my opinion. An upgraded DirecTV box is on the horizon, but not for at least a month. While the DVD player is just a standard DVD player and currently only outputting via S-VHS it still looks fucking rad! Yes rad dude.

That brings me to the next topic. My Logitech Harmony remotes. So the remote for the bedroom was previously programmed for the old TV plus DVD player and DirecTV box. All I had to do to setup the remote for use with the new TV was update the profile online and then hook up the USB cable and click 'next'. Boom! Remote all configured for the new setup. I love my Harmony remotes. They're light. They're easy to set up. The online software asks you all the right questions. It's awesome. I don't even have the latest model remote. It's not perfect, but it's darn close. I liked the first one I got so much that I picked up a second one for the bedroom. The first one was just as easy to set up with even more gear. The first one controls a VCR(Soon to be gone, I mean c'mon who watches VHS? I mean really.), DVD, TV, DirecTV and home theatre receiver. Not a complicated setup, but it would have been a pain to have to manually program a remote to control all of it. Logitech and the Harmony remote took care of it all for me. Anyway. Lovin' the new TV and my handy dandy remotes that control the world.

How does the wall mount attach to the wall? How did you choose that bracket? Looks solid!

I had to find a stud in the wall. Just so you know this house is old enough to space "most" of the studs 12" on center. Sometimes. Then it was just a matter of drilling three holes for the almost 4" long lag bolts. Just by itself it weighs close to 20 lbs.

The fun part was trying, and succeeding mind you, to get the fuckin' TV up onto it by myself. My arms finally feel normal again.

The bracket wasn't cheap and there are probably ones that are just as good, or maybe not, for less. It was kinda just by chance on how I picked it. I knew how much the TV weighed. I knew how much the TV cost. So I didn't go cheap. Turns out I picked a nice one. It looks good, it's definitely solid and it was adjustable enough for my application.

Hey, you're pretty fuckin' good but haven't you got your house pretty much filled up and you're talking about a new TV for the front room. Not much room left for Stella. I saw some 37" LCD's at Fry's the other day but they they didn't have a Sharps. The picture on the larger and smaller Sharps was very nice tho. U NO HOO.

Working on clearing out the front room before picking up a new TV. Cleared out a bunch of the computers. Put all the CDs and DVDs into compact cases and ditched the original cases. Basically sorting and tossing stuff. Once there's enough stuff cleared out we'll pick up a TV for the front room. Until then we're sticking with what we have.

Hockey is nice on the new TV. Heh. Sharks are on a nice little streak. Hopefully they'll keep it going now.
