Sweet Blank Label Goodness!
A month or so back Paul Taylor of Wapsi Square fame had a child. Well obviously his wife had a child and he was blamed for it. ;) The unfortunate part was that their newborn couldn't wait to get out and was born about a month early. There were some complications and without going into details the medical bills increased from that of a normal birth. Time has passed and baby Taylor is doing much better. In fact extremely well. Yay baby Taylor!
The fellows over at Blank Label Comics decided to do something for their teammate and partner to help with the unexpected bills. They ended up auctioning off some original artwork, signed comics, etc. This is where I come into the story. I've been reading Wapsi Square for quite a while now. Long enough that I don't remember when I started reading it. It is at the top of my list of comics to read everyday. I had gone to the San Diego Comicon earlier in the summer in part to meet Paul and get him to sign one of his books for me. That didn't happen, but because it didn't I gave Dave Kellet and his comic Sheldon a try while I was there. Sheldon has become a daily staple now.
Well Dave put up an original strip plus a custom sketch for auction. I won. Woohoo! So I don't have a picture ready right now of the sketch, but I'll post one later tonight. However, I am now the proud owner of an original Dave Kellet strip, see above link, suitable for framing as well as a custom one off sketch of Sheldon in snorkling get up. Kinda like my masthead graphic. Sweet! I met Dave today at lunch to pick up my stuff and sat and chatted with him for about fortyfive minutes over coffee at a local Starbucks. Again awesome stuff.
I've been contributing fairly healthily to charities this year and that is something I plan to continue. However, being able to directly help someone that needs it and that has given me something so enjoyable is just as good if not even better. Thanks to Dave for the artwork. Thanks to Paul for making Wapsi Square and best wishes to you, your wife and your newborn.
